Happy April Fool’s Day!

Happy April 1st!

I love April, I am ready for all the spring flowers, I love the bulb flowers most of all, With the mild winter we have had here in the bay area of Northern California we have already started seeing daffodils popping up, and a few tulips and Iris.  It is also Palm Sunday for those who celebrate this day.

On the Sunday before Easter, many Christians celebrate Palm Sunday. Recalling the entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem, churches distribute palm leaves in remembrance of people who waved them and carpeted his path with them. One of the things you can do with these palm leaves is to fold them into crosses. These are great to give out as little gifts or hide as secret presents! You can get directions on how to make this palm cross here.

Today is also April Fool’s Day and whether you have a propensity for playing tricks on people or not, here are some thoughts about this day.  Today is the day for pranks of all kinds, whether they come from friends and family or they’re an online, TV or radio prank. There will definitely be some merriment and foolishness about, so put your sense of humor into gear and be prepared!

But I especially love April 1st for today is my grandson Ryan’s birthday and while when he gets into mischief we say that we KNOW why he was born on April Fools Day, he is one of the sweetest little boys you could ever meet and he is going to break hearts with those brown eyes.

Have a Creative Day and don’t get fooled!     My gift to you this April Fool’s Day is a free stamp set with any order placed on my website today. This will not show in your order, but will be sent directly from me!… so click h ere  to place your order now…..NO FOOLING!

Create background paper using tissue paper for a unique look

In this card I want to talk about the background.  You can easily create your own background using various techniques. In this card the background was made by using tissue paper to transfer the color from your stamp pad to the paper. You can get a nice varied look by mixing the depth of color based on how much you load onto the tissue.  Just wad up the tissue and use it like a sponge.   Try your hand at this technique and let me know what you think!

Happy Birthday Michangelo

Do you ever feel like it takes forever to finish a scrapbook page?   Great creations take time. Michangelo took 4 years to complete the LiSistine Chapel. I am sure the italians thought it was worth the wait.

What causes you to not be able to finish a scrapbook page or give you a block on getting it done?  Leave a comment and share with us. To read more about Michangelo click here.

The new Idea Book is coming!!!

While we are all in the throes of winter it is always nice to know that Spring is just around the corner… or in this case, the Close to my Heart Spring Idea Book! It is new and exciting and I GUARANTEE that you will love the new papers, stamp sets and embellishments!! What is most important however is to remember is that with every new Idea Book the past paper, stamps and embellishments go on a “while supplies last” status. This means you will want to go through the current Idea Book, and make those purchases you have been waiting on so the product is not gone when you get around to ordering it. I hate to have my customers disappointed, so please…. won’t you click here to take a look through the current idea book and see what you want to grab….

Have a wonderfully creative day!

Mission Organization

While I have always  been like this, I saw a program where Julie Morgenstern, a professional organizer, speaker and author of Time Management from the Inside Out.  Julie shared her organization formula, which applies to virtually anything, including your hobby space.

Here is my take on  Julie’s advise, applying it specically to your scrapbooking items. Whether you have a corner of the room, or an entire room dedicated to your scrapbooking or other hobby, these concepts will help you organize just about anyttrhing!

We will do this over the span of several weeks, but today we start with the formula …

Formula for Organizing

S  ~   SORT

P ~     PURGE

A ~     ASSIGN

C ~     CONTAINERIZE

E ~     EQUALZE

Have a wonderful day…come back tomorrow for more on organizing your scrapbooking area!

Creatively,

Puppies are born today!

As you may or may not know, I try to make Sunday’s post a bit more of everyday life, be it a recipe or similar. Today however, the Maltese female we rescued in October has giving me my source for today’s post.  She had her puppies this morning!  I am really excited as I was worried after my sister in law recounted her experience, but Zukie has taken care of everything. I have just changed bedding,  introduced a heating pad  and given her water.

At the moment, we have 2 pups, born about 2 hours apart.  I was told the last litter she had was 3 pups, so we will see.  After she is done today, and I have been able to give her a bath, I will take a picture to share with you.  I have taken lots of pictures so far, but they are not very pretty, as we all know… the actual birth while beautiful in nature, is not beautiful in actuality… LOL

Motivational Monday Scrapbook Sketch

2 page Scrapbooking Sketch

As we embark on a new year of goals and challenges to motivate us into get our scrapbooking done, I will be posting a new sketch each week to challenge you. If you send me a copy of the scrapbook page you create from the sketch,  you will be entered into a drawing to win a free gift at the end of the month!  So here is this week’s sketch!

Scrapbook Page Map Template

The colors are only for distinction of placement NOT for the way they match ( or don’t match)   The bottom box on the right side page is a torn edge.  They grey box between the two photos is the piece of photograph you cut to make the square picture – presumably 4 x 4 = it is the leftover piece.

How does this scrapbook sketch make your feel? Do you feel your gaze going smoothly from left to right? Scrapbook sketches or templates are only meant to give you a starting point for your page – where will you take this motivation from here is up to you!

Scrapbook Sketches – 2 Page Layout

2 Page Scrapbooking Sketch

Today’s sketch features 5 or 6 photographs with 2 journal spots and some room for embellishments!

The great thing about this sketch  is you can actually showcase up to 14 pictures!   You can surround the title with little photos – perhaps the faces of those featured in the larger ones.    If you don’t want so many pictures, use the extra spots for some great stamping embellishments!

I would love to see how you take this sketch and make it your own!  E-mail me your scrapbook pages and I will feature them here so everyone can ooh and aah!

Holiday Cookbook – Creamy Feta Potatoes

It’s Sunday, so that means it is time to share a recipe with you.  I found this recipe for Creamy Feta Potatoes in the paper last week and it sounded so good, I wanted to share.  This would be a great recipe to use in making a holiday cookbook! why not make a cookbook of favorite recipes for your holiday meal.  Just use 6 x 6 pages to put the recipe on, and slip them right into the6 x 6 Quick Pic™ Album.  This trendy album made from sturdy chipboard with an embossed design on the front and back covers. Each pre-assembled album comes with 8 Memory Protectors®. Comes in Olive or Pansy Purple.

And now for your recipe of the week:

Creamy Feta Potatoes

Ingredients

  • 2  tablespoons unsalted butter

  • 4  cups finely diced yellow onion

  • 2  garlic cloves, minced

  • 8  ounces Greek feta cheese, crumbled

  • 1 1/4  cups heavy cream

  • 1  cup whole milk

  • 1/2  teaspoon salt

  • 2  pounds (about 3 large) russet potatoes, peeled and covered with water

  • Freshly ground black pepper

  • 1/2  cup fresh homemade breadcrumbs

Instructions
  1. Melt better in a large skillet. Add onions; cook until soft but not browned, about 5 minutes. Add garlic; cook 1 minute. Remove from heat and let cool. Stir in feta cheese.
  2. Preheat oven to 350F. Butter a 13 x 9-inch baking dish or coat with cooking spray.
  3. Combine cream, milk and salt in a saucepan. Heat to just under a boil. Remove from heat.
  4. Slice 1 potato, using a mandoline, a slicing blade on the food processor, or by hand into 1⁄8  -inch slices. Place in bottom of pan. Season with 8 grinds of black pepper. (Do not add salt). Cover with one-third (about 1 cup) of onion mixture. Repeat two more layers, leaving enough sliced potatoes for a top layer. Pour hot cream over top layer. The cream should reach the top of potatoes but not cover them. Add another 8 grinds of black pepper. Do not cover the dish for baking.
  5. Bake 25 minutes. Remove from oven and use a large spoon or bulb baster to baste top of potatoes with cream from the corners. Return to oven and bake 45 minutes. Sprinkle breadcrumbs on top. Continue baking until crumbs are brown, 15 to 20 minutes. The potatoes should be fork tender and the cream nearly absorbed. Let stand up to 20 minutes before serving.
